Coretta Scott King 1927-2006

Another icon from the Civil Rights Movement has gone on, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. passed early this morning.

I thought how appropriate for an advocate of non-violence to go peacefully in her sleep.

Whenever a Civil Rights Leader passes on, of course the struggle regarding civil rights come to mind when the media talks about their accomplishments. No different with the news at the passing of Mrs. King. The struggle, the injustices, the pain, the deaths, the terror all come rolling back like a tsunami.

With all of the terrorist attacks that are happening so prominently I couldn't help but to compare the black plight as a terrorist attack which started way before Bin Laden was born. Other leaders of that era have passed, but for some reason this was the first time I associated the terrorism of today to that of yesterday.

Mrs. King and others, I hope that we can live so that your efforts will not have been in vain.

Deepest sympathy to the King Family and to the world for the passing of our mother, sister, friend and an awesome humanitarian.

Antidisestablishmentarianism

antidisestablishmentarianism: person who is against breaking up an establishment.

That was my daughter's counter attack word in the word game with her friend.

Then he came back with, Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, a suppose lung disease that supposely is the longest word in the dictionary.

I think they both just like finding words that are sesquipedalian. :)

Triskaidekaphobia

tris-kai-deka-pho-bia: fear of the number 13

I wouldn't have imagine there was a word for the fear of the number 13, but there it was in the dictionary.

My daughter and a friend were playing a word game and her friend came up with this word. He won that round.

I'll tell you in tomorrow's blog what word my daughter came up with in the game on the next round. :)

What to say?

What do you say when you don't have anything to say? Do you just filibuster like congress does when they don't want a law to pass? Or do you talk about the weather and make small talk about stuff that doesn't mean anything?

You can tell when people don't have anything to say. It's not just the silence either. It's their whole body posture. Like they are pulling teeth to get one word to come out their mouth.

What to do when you don't have anything to say?? Don't do anything, just be quiet.

Your First Fruit

Did you know when the Bible speaks of your first fruit that it's not just money?

What about the first fruit of your day as in the first hour you wake up?

What about the first fruit of your year as in the first month of the year?

What we do with our "first" can determine the rest of our day, the rest of our year and ultimately the rest of our life.

I got that sermon from Minister Paula White yesterday and put my own little spin to it. :)

"SAW"

Now I'm not one for watching horror flicks, in fact I didn't see this one, but someone told me about it from beginning to end.

It actually had a story behind it which most horror films don't to me. It's usually someone strange coming around and all of a sudden odd things start happening to them that didn't happen to all the other people who were there before. How do I know? I read reviews, I don't watch them.

But SAW seems to be different. It's a scary movie with an emphasis on the importance of life. Now isn't that weird?

I might just have to rent it, watch the special features so I can get in my mind that there was a director, cameramen, prop personnel with fake blood and other stuff all looking at the scene.

I have to see it as creative writing and not as a scary movie then maybe I'll get through it. :)

Can you believe it?

I was listening to the news this morning and couldn't believe what I heard!

The news at the time was about body armor for the soldiers in Iraq. Well as you know, John Kerry brought to our attention during the presidential campaign that the soldiers did not all have body armor to protect them. Family members then started sending body armor for their love ones and could you blame them.

Well according to the newscaster, the Government said if a soldier was killed in a body armor that was not issued by the government then the soldier's family could not collect their $400,000 death insurance.

Now, I'm sure there is a logical explanation for making that rule, don't you?

Does that also mean for the many soldiers that have died that all their families received $400,000?

What's up?

How you doing? How's your Momma and them? They okay, that's good. I'm doing okay too, can't complain, won't complain.

I didn't want nothing, just wanted to say hello.

I'll talk to you tomorrow, okay?

Bye, bye.

Lucky Friday the 13th

Everyday is a lucky day if you're 6 feet above the ground, but for Friday the 13th I especially make it a lucky day.

Today I made some decisions to empower my career and the outcome was great!

It's a wonderful Friday the 13th.

It's my ex-boyfriend's birthday from many years ago and it still is a wonderful day!

Happy Friday the 13th. :)

Commander in Chief

You know, that's one of the wondeful things about blogging, you can make mistakes in your writing. :)

In my blog on my favorite t.v. shows I said "Commander and Chief" when the show is "Commander in Chief".

Check it out, you might like the idea of having a woman President one day.

Stop Complaining

Philippians 2:14: Do all things without complaining and disputing.

Have you ever noticed when you do complain that people really don't want to hear it?

So why exert all that negative energy in the first place? Why? Because it's easy to do. It's more simpler to make excuses and gripe than to take responsiblity and make changes.

Change is inevitable, so let's make the best of it.

Stop complaining.

My Two Favorite Shows

Commander and Chief and Boston Legal. I love those shows! Those are the only two I let myself watch. I was also blown away by Lost, Bernie Mac, Everybody Hates Chris, 24 Hours, CSI, Desperate Housewives, Cold Cases, Alias and a few others, but all I was doing was watching T.V.!

That was too much boob tube so I had to make a decision and a woman President and crazy, funny lawyers won me over. Plus it was easy keeping up with those two shows because for now they follow each other on Tuesday nights on the same network.

So keep it coming Geena Davis and William Shatner, I love it!!

Tip for Single Moms

Today on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, Myra J.'s tip for the single Mom was to clean out her[Single Mom] purse.

I thought that was a pretty prophetic statement.

Myra started naming a whole bunch of things that should be eliminated from your purse and I was embarassed just thinking about how many of those items she was callling out that I had in my possession.

It's time to get rid of all that extra baggage and ease the load both physically and emotionally of carrying it all.

"The Fourth Dimension" Volume One

An awesome book I would highly recommend you to read written by Dr. David Yonggi Cho. Here's an excerpt from Chapter One, Incubation: A Law of Faith.

" You have the resources within you, and now you know the elements needed in incubation to make your faith usable. Get a clear-cut goal and objective. Have a desire that burns to the boiling point, then pray until you have the substance, the assurance. Then begin to speak the word about which you have been given assurance."

That one little paragraph is so powerful so you can imagine what the other 155 pages have to say!

So number 1: Get a clear-cut goal or objective. Number 2: Have a burning desire for your goal. Number 3: Pray until you get the assurance of what it is you are creating in your mind. Number 4: Speak it into existence!

{Dr. Cho is the pastor of the Yoido Full Gospel Central Church in Seoul, Korea. His church has become one of the largest worshipping bodies in the world. The congregation numbers over 730,000 members.}

It's Harvest Time!!!

We have planted the seeds, we have watered them, fertilized them and now it's harvest time!!

It's time to take the basket of faith and pick our blessings!! The harvest of our health! The harvest of our families! The harvest of our finances! The harvest of our passions! The harvest of our homes! The harvest of the furnishings and appliances for our homes! The harvest of our clothing! The harvest of our transportation! The harvest of our businesses! The harvest of our careers! The harvest of our promotions! The harvest of our bonuses! The harvest of our investments! The harvest of our education! the harvest of our books!! Happy New Year!!

Wow! It's been a long time since we've talked and oh my gosh, sooooooo much has happened!!!

I'll get it all out bit by bit eventually. It will just pop up in a particular blog I'm doing one day and then another day and then a couple of weeks, but it'll come out, I know it will.
