I recently watched an episode of Good Morning America about Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
Six months ago during the Katrina castrophe a Black woman was in need of insulin and hadn't had it for four days. A White nurse who was also devastated by the trauma of Katrina, but yet managed to yell out calling for insulin. Someone in the crowd came to the rescue and the nurse saved this woman's life.
The two had not seen each other for 6 months and GMA tracked the saved woman down and had her come to New Orleans for a reunion during Mardi Gras. It was very heart-warming seeing the two ladies embrace. The woman's husband brought flowers for the nurse. The tears were flowing on the T.V. and down my face at the same time. That was so sweet GMA.
Then in the midst of all those fuzzy feelings, Charles Gibson told the nurse that GMA was sending her to the Oscars for her courageous and unselfish act. A burst of joy came over her face! Then Gibson, hit me with a bombshell that I wasn't expecting. He mentioned that the woman who had been saved got to New Orleans from Texas at her own expense and no mention of her and her husband going to the Oscars! I'm not saying she shouldn't be grateful for being alive, but come on now.
I couldn't believe it! You took all that time to find the woman and then ABC couldn't afford to fly the woman and her husband to New Orleans and they don't get to go to the Oscars either?
What an unhappy ending to a story that started off unhappy, had some light brought to the disaster and then well, you heard my interpretation of it.
Shame on you GMA.
